So now your labor of love is finally finished and it is time to see how she flies! Thanks to the success of companies like Van's Aircraft and many others too numberous too mention, coupled with programs from the EAA such as the Flight Advisor Programs, there is a proliferation of knowledge and resources out there to help insure a successful first flight. Most of the time, if done correctly with the proper training and mindset, most builders successfully perform the maiden flight, and have a lifetime memory. But for those who have perhaps let their flying skills deteriorate during the building process, or would rather trust their aircraft into the hands of an experienced test pilot, there are other options.

I have made all of the intitial test flights for my own aircraft, as well as have made a number of other first flights for others, including test flights after major modifications have been performed requiring the need to go back into Phase I flight testing.

My qualifications included approximately 6000 hours of total time, including 3000+ hours in experimental aircraft, and over 2500 hours of tail wheel experience in everything from ultralights to Stearman's and Beech 18's. I hold a Commercial License, ASMEL, Instrument Airplane, CFII ASMEL, and SIC rating for CL-65 (Canadair Rejional Jet).

For intitial flights, we will have a thorough briefing ahead of time, followed up by a documented list of maneuvers performed, observed engine paramaters, flight characteristics, noted anomalies, and recommendations for improvements or follow-on tests. When I am finished you will feel comfortable that you have a n airplane that is either safe to fly or a list from me detailing needed changes prior to further flights.
